In the year 2017 Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi as well as Daddy Yankee released Despacito and it topped the charts for most streamed songs during the course of 6 months. The single Despacito, which combines pop music with reggaeton was not only a way to bring new attention to reggaeton music but also sparked interest in Latin music. In 2015 there were only two predominantly Spanish-speaking songs in Billboard's Top 100 and in 2016 there were four. The popularity of Despacito peaked in 2017. In 2020 the year 2020, 41 mainly Spanish songs will be included in the Top 100. Following Justin Bieber's bilingual remix to Despacito (2017) popular musicians soon started collaborating with reggaeton artists, including Drake with Bad Bunny on MIA (2018) and Madonna together with Maluma on Medellin (2019). The mainstreaming of reggaeton was an issue for some artists in 2020. Rauw alejandro and a young generation, however, determined to maintain the style. The musician incorporated electronic dance music and other genres into his songs.
